Cleraun,
a university centre for men located five minutes walk
from University College Dublin, offers facilities and
activities to help students get the most out of their
time in college. In Cleraun, we hold that life and career
are not only about self-advancement, but a way to contribute
to society, and that academic pursuits are the start of
that ideal's realisation.
Cleraun
runs activities for students to introduce them to the challenges
of our times, (cf. CODEP), and to foster a sense of responsibility
in the use of time, talents, and resources. An emphasis
is placed on character development, not only academic achievement.
The atmosphere of the centre can be described as familial,
where people take an interest in the concerns of each other.
Students of all creeds and nationalities are welcome to
come and stay in Cleraun, and as a result, the centre cultivates
a rich universal outlook, respecting all peoples and cultures.
The
centre offers four types of formative activities: 1) courses
designed to improve study and professional techniques 2)
programmes aimed at raising the awareness of society's needs
such as the Media conferences 3) seminars and round table
discussions on cultural topics such as philosophy, art,
science, history, and music. 4) Christian formation given
in talks, seminars, doctrinal classes. Spiritual and doctrinal
activities are entrusted to Opus Dei, a personal prelature
of the Catholic Church (see www.opusdei.ie). The centre has a small chapel, and
a resident chaplain, who is a priest of Opus Dei. |
