Cleraun University Centre
What Cleraun offers
If you’re looking for a place to stay where you can feel at home and be able to concentrate on your studies and college pursuits, then Cleraun University Centre is for you. Cleraun offers full-board accommodation to male university students at an attractive price. Cleraun is only five minutes walk from UCD campus at Belfield and is close to major bus routes to the city centre.
Cleraun has an excellent study atmosphere and facilities that are open to resident and non-resident students. Cleraun encourages students to aim for excellence and to develop their personality in all its facets so as to be better able to contribute to society.
Atmosphere
Cleraun offers a ‘home away from home’ for students. At Cleraun a spirit of service to others and a family atmosphere is fostered. With this in mind all residents help in maintaining the centre.
Students of all creeds and nationalities are welcome. Spiritual and doctrinal activities at Cleraun are entrusted to Opus Dei, a personal prelature of the Catholic Church. Opus Dei helps ordinary people to find God in their work and in their family. Cleraun has a resident chaplain who looks after spiritual activities such as weekly talks and an annual retreat.
Applying to stay in Cleraun
Students who are thinking about the possibility of applying to stay in Cleraun are welcome to visit the centre by arrangement (with their family if they would like). They will be shown around the centre and introduced to other university student residents.
The first stage in the application procedure is to fill out and return an application form. (An application form can be downloaded from this web-site below). Students are called for an interview, based on the application forms received. This can be arranged at a time that suits both parties. The purpose of the interview is for us to meet the prospective resident in person and for him to meet us.
Cleraun offers sought-after quality accommodation as well as many other benefits. Potential residents are encouraged to apply early.
More than just a University Residence
Cleraun has a long association with UCD. Since it opened in 1982 the Centre has organised many cultural and educational activities for university students. Guest speakers are regularly invited to discuss and debate topical issues. Throughout the academic year social projects are organised by residents.
Since 1992 Cleraun has been bringing university students and young professionals to some of the poorest parts of the developing world as well as encouraging local social project initiatives. Cleraun hosts multi-disciplinary seminars and conferences on topics such as the media, philosophy and science. Sports activities and weekend hiking are organized throughout the academic year for resident and non-resident students.
